There are also reports that CarPlay is not working after an update.
In this case, it is likely a bug and should be fixed in a future update unless using a third-party accessory such as a wireless CarPlay adapter.
Ford also states your IOS needs to be at least software version 7.1 to use Ford and CarPlay.
How To Fix

How do I restart my Ford CarPlay (SYNC 3)?

- Hard Reset – Resets the module with no loss of settings or data – provides an abrupt shutdown and restart
- Master Reset – Resets the module back to factory defaults. All personal data and settings are lost. This will require Bluetooth pairings, and saved addresses
Performing a Soft Reset:
- Press and hold the Seek Up button while pressing and holding the stereo Power button
- After approximately 5 secs, the screen will go black; release the buttons
- Then, allow some time to pass for the system to reset
Performing a Hard Reset:
- With the ignition OFF, disconnect the power to the SYNC module by either disconnecting the vehicle battery or the large 54-pin connector at the rear of the module
- Reconnect the power after 30 secs
- Turn the ignition ON and wait for it to boot back up
Performing a Master Reset:
- Press Settings in the Feature bar at the bottom of the screen
- Press the General icon
- Press the Scroll bar or swipe vertically until you see Master Reset. Press this
- A message confirming that all system settings will be erased and reset to factory defaults will appear. Press Continue to proceed.
- A “Resetting to factory defaults” message will appear, the system will turn off, and the screen will go blank. This may take a few minutes for the system to reset and resume like normal
